Home to the endangered Black Rhino
Mkomazi Game Reserve is located to the east of the Pare Mountains in Tanzania’s Eastern Arc mountain range, just south of the border with Kenya. The reserve is the focus of an intensive breeding program to save the endangered black rhinos. Adjacent to Tsavo National Park in Kenya, Mkomazi’s tourist facilities are sparse and rarely visited, making an ideal destination for visitors wanting to escape the crowds.
The dry and dusty savannah and grasslands around Mkomazi Game Reserve are perfect for black rhinos, however when water holes dry up, game in the park becomes elusive and hard to find.
Wild dogs have recently been introduced to the region, and the reserve has a wide variety of indigenous snakes.
